Daniel Cormier Reacts To Jon Jones Checking Into Rehab

Daniel Cormier has given his initial reaction to the news that Jon Jones has checked into a drug treatment facility after testing positive for cocaine use, and despite the continued bad blood between the two fighters, ‘DC’ isn’t looking to kick the champion while he’s down.daniel-cormier_vice_670-620x400

“At the end of the day, it doesn’t change the result of the fight,” Cormier told MMAJunkie.com. “It’s more sad than anything.

“It doesn’t make me feel better to have lost against a guy who was doing drugs.”

It was revealed yesterday that Jones had tested positive for the drug back on December 4th, but since it isn’t registered as a banned substance during out-of-competition testing, the Nevada State Athletic Commission were unable to punish him and the fight went ahead as planned.

Jones would go on to defeat Cormier by unanimous decision in an impressive display in which he looked to beat the challenger at his own game with clinch work and takedowns.

In the aftermath of the fight Jones opted not to bury the hatchet with his rival and instead continued to take verbal jabs at him. Cormier has so far resisted the urge to respond in kind, but he says that he’ll use that negative energy in a positive way.

“I see everything he does; I see all of his social media jabs at me and everything. And I welcome them, and I will use them as motivation to rebuild myself.”

In the mean time, Cormier is showing the strength of his character by wishing Jones well despite their differences.

“I just want the guy to get help and just be like a guiding light for people, to be a positive influence.

“You see glimpses of it, like him giving clothes to the homeless on Christmas. You just kind of hope that he can make that how he is all the time.”
